What is day balance?

Day balance tells you whether you’re ahead or behind the plan you made for today. It reads like 12m ahead, 8m behind or on plan, and it’s shown in the panel footer and the main window.

  • Finished tasks: every task you finished today under its estimate puts you ahead by the difference. Every task that went over puts you behind.
  • Open tasks: a task you’re still working on counts against you only once it runs past its estimate.

Hover over the balance to see the two parts, for example “3 finished 15m under plan · open tasks 3m past plan”.

No. Time left is how much estimated work is still open today, shown as 2h 10m left · done ~16:40. Day balance is how your actual time compares with the plan.

Before you start a task, changing its estimate changes the plan. After you’ve started, the balance keeps measuring against your first estimate, so an overrun still shows as behind.

When you’re 5 or more minutes ahead or behind, the menu bar adds it to the title, for example +8m or -12m.
